Frequently asked questions
What counts as bandwidth?
Every byte your visitors send to and receive from your tunnels, across all tunnels of your account. The monthly quota resets on the first day of each month (UTC).
What happens when I reach my quota?
You get a warning in the CLI and the dashboard at 80%. At 100%, your tunnels show a "Bandwidth limit reached" page until the quota resets or you upgrade. Nothing is charged automatically.
What is the visitor warning page?
On plans that include it, people opening your tunnel in a browser first see a short notice that the site is served through Getwebup. It protects everyone against phishing. API clients, webhooks and requests that send the getwebup-skip-browser-warning header are never affected.
How do I upgrade?
Choose a Tunnels plan in your Getwebup Cloud account and complete the checkout there. The new plan applies automatically: bandwidth limits change right away; restart running tunnels to pick up the new per-tunnel limits.
Can I keep the same URL?
Random addresses change when you restart the CLI after a while. With a reserved subdomain or a custom domain, your tunnel always comes back on the same address.
Is my local machine exposed?
No inbound ports are opened. The CLI keeps one outgoing encrypted connection to Getwebup, and only the port you choose is reachable. Protect it further with --basic-auth.
